OC Children's Book Fest

I spent most of day at the OC Children's Book Fest and so many wonderful authors.  I will have several posts to recap and some swag to share!  Special thanks to Robyn who organized all of the Young Adult authors.

Here is a list of authors I was able to see:

Gitty Daneshvari -- School of Fear - she totally sold me on her book.  I bought one and after I read it, you can win it!

Cecil Castellucci -- Rose Sees Red -- this is another book that is autographed and will be given away.  It turns out we have friends in common.  I am also going to profile Beige for Rocktober.

Lauren Kate -- Fallen & Torment -- I could only get out the words "your books are fabulous".  She looks like a fairy queen with fabulous boots!  She was the rock star of the day and very unassuming.

Maria Snyder -- Inisde Out -- way smart.  I picked up some signed mini posters to give out.  I am embarrassed that I haven't read her books yet, even though several people in my book group have berated me.  I did buy Poison Study and Inside Out.

Becca Fitzpatrick.  She is just too wonderful for words.  Very charming and down to earth.  I had copies of Hush, Hush and Crescendo signed and will give those away soon.

Nancy Holder -- Crusade--   I only caught the tale end of her talk.  She looks like a lot of fun.  Another author where I have all of her books, but have only read one.  Don't hate me.

Jessica Brody -- The Karma Club -- I have a cool autographed book mark for some lucky person.  She is the ultimate!  I can see why Princess Bookie / Cindy adores her work.  And yes, I will get right on it.

Emma Michaels -- The Thirteenth Chime -- She is very poised and charming.  I bought a book to share with one lucky person.  I know this isn't an authorly description, but she is adorable!  I want her to win at what she does.

Lisa Desrochers -- Personal Demons -- This is probably my favorite book of the year.  I ended up with a coughing fit when I met her.  She did remember my review though. I picked up a cute bookmark to give away.

Robin Benway -- The Extraordinary Secrets of April, May and June.  I had my ARC signed to giveaway.  I haven't had time to read this one.  She is a local OC girl and I am going to feature her other book, Audrey, Wait during Rocktober.  Another author who made me want to read her.

Amber Benson -- Among the Ghosts -- She is so pretty, yeah, I know that is not anything writerly, but she is also very funny.  I had to leave while she was speaking.   I loved her Calliope Reaper novels.

I have several pictures to post and will have those up during the week.  I wish I could have stayed longer.  It was truly a wonderful event and I wasn't the oldest person there--YAY ME!

One thing I did find out is that there are a lot of women who read more young adult books than anything else and they aren't embarrassed by it.

  2. Sounds like a fun event. I am not embarrassed to admit that I am really enjoying more and more YA fiction as of late (I a way past what would be considered YA!). I just lent Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver to a friend and she looked at me and asked "Isn't this a kids book?" My answer to her was just read it. I saw her yesterday and she is loving it.

  3. I was there also. It was fun! I got a couple books signed too, but couldn't stick around for all the authors unfortunately.
