I Don't Care About Your Band: What I Learned from Indie Rockers, Trust Funders, Pornographers, Felons, Faux-Sensitive Hipsters, and Other Guys I've Dated by Julie Klausner (Paperback - Feb 2, 2010)

Product Description

In the tradition of Cynthia Heimel and Chelsea Handler, and with the boisterous iconoclasm of Amy Sedaris, Julie Klausner's candid and funny debut I Don't Care About Your Band sheds light on the humiliations we endure to find love--and the lessons that can be culled from the wreckage.

I Don't Care About Your Band posits that lately the worst guys to date are the ones who seem sensitive. It's the jerks in nice guy clothing, not the players in Ed Hardy, who break the hearts of modern girls who grew up in the shadow of feminism, thinking they could have everything, but end up compromising constantly. The cowards, the kidults, the critics, and the contenders: these are the stars of Klausner's memoir about how hard it is to find a man--good or otherwise--when you're a cynical grown-up exiled in the dregs of Guyville.

Off the popularity of her New York Times "Modern Love" piece about getting the brush-off from an indie rock musician, I Don't care About Your Band is marbled with the wry strains of Julie Klausner's precocious curmudgeonry and brimming with truths that anyone who's ever been on a date will relate to. Klausner is an expert at landing herself waist-deep in crazy, time and time again, in part because her experience as a comedy writer (Best Week Ever, TV Funhouse on SNL) and sketch comedian from NYC's Upright Citizens Brigade fuels her philosophy of how any scene should unfold, which is, "What? That sounds crazy? Okay, I'll do it."

I Don't Care About Your Band charts a distinctly human journey of a strong-willed but vulnerable protagonist who loves men like it's her job, but who's done with guys who know more about love songs than love. Klausner's is a new outlook on dating in a time of pop culture obsession, and she spent her 20's doing personal field research to back up her philosophies. This is the girl's version of High Fidelity. By turns explicit, funny and moving, Klausner's debut shows the evolution of a young woman who endured myriad encounters with the wrong guys, to emerge with real-world wisdom on matters of the heart. I Don't Care About Your Band is Julie Klausner's manifesto, and every one of us can relate.

My favorite food is chicken! Although I was getting a bit fat and now I'm on a diet food ;(

My favorite thing to chew is mean kitty... it's a clothe doll with a squeeky...

I am mortified by my winter coat. You see my mommy thought since I have a hair loss problem on my sides, that I would be cold and bought me a coat. I try to make the best of it...

8. Dog Trainers: Friend or Foe?
Dog trainer was for my mommy- I had my own ideas!

Definitely the natural look!

10. Do you like baths?
I hate baths! Don't really like getting wet and boy do I smell funny afterwards!

My favorite place to watch my territory from is MY little porch off the bedroom. It's on the second floor and high enough for me to see everything! Especially those deer!

All I have to do is smile and that's enough cuteness for me to get a treat!

13. What most do you like to bark at?
I bark like crazy at all the deer in the woods! Sometimes they think about coming into the yard, but I usually set them straight before that happens.

14. Cats: Take them or leave them?
I'm not so sure about cats... I see one every once in a while, but it runs away usually, so I figure it knows its place and that makes it Ok in my book.

15. Would you chase a squirrel right now if you could?
I would definitely chase a squirrel right now!

16. If you catch something, what do you do with it?
I once cornered a woodchuck in my yard (it was the closest I ever came to catching something) and wasn't really sure what to do next... my mommy helped me out. She escorted me inside the house.

World domination... tends to be easy when you have a cute face.

If I could do one thing right now it would be to run through the woods and bark at those deer!

20. What book would like to chew the cover off?
I would chew the cover off and the book itself of Training Your Dog: The Step-by-Step Manual by Joachim Volhard! Who does he think he is writing a book like that!

Anything else to bark about?

I won an award!

Well, this award is from a group of dog bloggers and you can see it here. It is from Dog Health Problems for discussing Blue's issues.

He is improving and getting around better.  This is nothing like the first time it happened, although I think I was prepared and knew exactly what to do this time.

Book Description From the Publisher:

It's late in the fall in Edinburgh and late in the career of Detective Inspector John Rebus. As he is simply trying to tie up some loose ends before his retirement, a new case lands on his desk: a dissident Russian poet has been murdered in what looks like a mugging gone wrong.

Rebus discovers that an elite delegation of Russian businessmen is in town, looking to expand its interests. And as Rebus's investigation gains ground, someone brutally assaults a local gangster with whom he has a long history.

Has Rebus overstepped his bounds for the last time? Only a few days shy of the end to his long, controversial career, will Rebus even make it that far?
