A cop's craving to know more about the woman next door could prove fatal in the steamy new novel from New York Times best selling author Lori Foster
As the person responsible for taking down a brutal human trafficker, Alice Appleton fears retaliation at every turn. No one knows about her past, which is exactly how she prefers it…until the sexy cop next door comes knocking.
Detective Reese Bareden thinks he knows what makes women tick, but his ever-elusive neighbor keeps him guessing like no other. Is his goal to unmask Alice's secrets? Or protect her from a dangerous new threat? One thing is certain: their chemistry is a time bomb waiting to explode. And with no one to trust but each other, Reese and Alice are soon drawn into a deadly maze of corruption, intrigue and desire—and into the line of fire….

MY THOUGHTS
ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT
Since his apartment is now a crime scene, Reese stays overnight on his neighbor's couch. Alice is one of those girls that doesn't like to bring attention to herself and although she is no push over, she doesn't go out of her way to make friends at her apartment complex. Left alone in her apartment, Reese decides to snoop since, well, he is a detective and that is part of his job. When he discovers more weapons hidden around Alice's apartment, he really wants to figure out what she is hiding or rather hiding from. You can feel the instant connection between the two and even though I wasn't expecting it, the budding relationship is part humorous, deeply sexy and serious, all at the same time.
I had to keep reading this until I found out exactly what Alice was hiding from and her background. Alice seemed like an odd duck until I realized exactly what her past entailed and how it is now intertwined with Reese. Reese, oh wow, the picture on the cover pretty much nails it. As Reece winds his way through a human trafficking case, he has enlisted Rowdy as an informant and with that a secondary romance is in bloom between two minor characters I hope to see again. The pair of Alice and Reese together is just pure fun and sexiness.
Even though this is the second book in the No series and I didn't read the first one, I was immediately captivated and had no issues starting with this book. I really do need to go back and read the first one now though. What really sold me what that Reese adopted a puppy that was left to die and Alice was correct in her assessment that he had to be a good guy. Foster has always been one of my favorite authors and she makes the whole story seem so effortless. This book really made me forget about time. More, please.

PLEASE WELCOME LORI TO BOOKHOUNDS
1. What is the first book you remember reading by yourself as a child?
Well, sadly, I wasn’t much of a reader until after I’d had 3 kids and my sister introduced me to the joy of romance novels. Before that I read a lot of my grandma’s “True Romance” magazine stories.
I do remember reading “The Contender” but I don’t remember liking it more than those magazine romance stories.
2. What are you reading right now?
“The Best Man” by Kristin Higgins. It’s delicious. But I’m reading it slowly because I don’t allow myself to read it except for when I’m on the treadmill. See, I’m trying to con myself into getting a little more exercise. So far so good. I spend 20 to 30 minutes a day (minus weekends) on the stupid torturous device. Only the awesomeness of the book is making it possible. This is my first Kristin Higgins book – recommended to me by my Facebook followers – and wow, does she ever weave a wonderful tale! I’m hooked.
3. How does your garden grow?
Well, in the olden days, when I had more free time, I did all that stuff myself – and loved it. Now I always feel guilty if I spend too much time on lawn work. I feel like if I’m not writing, I should be spending that time with family. So (don’t throw things at me) we have landscapers who come in each season and spruce things up. Hubby cuts the grass for the most part (we have 5 acres) at home, but we have people cut the grass at the lake.
So... occasionally now I plant a flower or two. But usually the landscapers just find out what I want and they do that for me. L I sort of miss it!
4. What is the last thing you googled?
Positions within the local police/sheriff stations. Research for the current WIP (work in progress). My heroine comes from a long line of law officials. But I didn’t want everyone to be a detective, you know? So I had to come up with some other possibilities. Right before that I’d had to google dislocated elbows and concussions and what type of meds you would take when the two were combined. In the end though, I asked a few nurses on my Facebook and got feedback from them.
See why I love Facebook!?
5. What makes you cringe?
BUGS! Especially the kind with lots of legs. (Worms don’t bother me too much.) But spiders, water bugs... oh wow. ::Shudder::: I don’t want them squashed. :::More shuddering.::: I just want my heroic husband to trap them and take them outside – a suitable distance from my house.
