Giveaway Interview HOW TO LOSE A LORD In 10 days or Less by ELIZABETH MICHELS @southerntart @sourcebookscasa

"I want to know you, to understand anything at all about you, because you are the most maddening lady I have ever encountered."
He's the perfect gentleman...
After years hidden away from the mockery of the Ton, proud Andrew Clifton, Lord Amberstall, is finally ready to face Society again. But when his horse is injured on the road to London, Andrew finds himself literally thrown at the feet of the beautiful, infuriating, and undeniably eccentric Katie Moore.
...she's anything but a lady.
Katie always preferred the stables to society, so when she was badly injured in a riding accident, she was more than happy to retreat to the countryside and give up the marriage mart for good. She never expected an infuriatingly proper lord to come tumbling into her life - and she certainly never expected to find herself wondering what it would be like to rejoin the world at his side.
They couldn't be more different, and soon Andrew and Katie find themselves at odds about everything but the growing passion between them... and a keen awareness of a threat that may end their unconventional romance before it has even begun.

1. Do you have a secret talent?

Oh, I have so many! What to choose? *winks* My thumbs are double jointed, so if I ever get arrested, I won’t be handcuffed very long. I’m really good at painting, not on canvas or anything. But, if you need a room in your house painted, I’m your girl. And, I’m known for my cooking. I often get special requests for food when friends and family come to visit.

2. Is there a song that really reminds you of your book?

I always have a song that happens to resonate with the characters of the book I’m writing. I’ll find myself listening to it when I first sit down at my laptop. I can’t listen to anything with words while I write, or I’ll start singing along instead of writing. But, I like to begin working with a song that puts me in the writer zone. For HOW TO LOSE A LORD IN 10 DAYS OR LESS it was Demons by Imagine Dragons. Andrew and Katie are both trying to overcome painful pasts in completely opposing ways. The lyrics to this song seemed to capture their struggles to find happiness and ultimately love.

3. What was the easiest thing about writing this book?

The conversations between Andrew and Katie. These two characters are different in every way imaginable and yet they’re paths in life are very similar. They disagree on most subjects, but when they push past what’s on the surface, they find a tentative friendship is waiting beneath their dislike for one another. There’s always a point in a book where the characters take over and begin to tell their own story, and in HOW TO LOSE A LORD IN 10 DAYS OR LESS that happens when Andrew finally cracks and visits Katie at her cottage. Katie is an unconventional lady who insists on living in the old gamekeeper’s cottage on her father’s property. Andrew couldn’t be more opposed to being unconventional. He’s a proper gentleman and abides by every rule in the book, until he’s stranded on Katie’s estate for 10 days. But, after a few days together, neither of their lives will be the same again. I love these characters, their chemistry, and their dialogue—I hope you do too.

4. Is there a word you love to use?

I love verbs. The simple beauty of an action has a larger meaning to me than a thousand nouns could ever produce. Some of my favorites are navigate, vanquish, and implore. Shampoo and yodel also make my favorites list even though I can’t really use them in a Regency set historical romance. Although, I could write a yodeling heroine at some point. She sounds like a quirky character I would write. *grins*

5. Any real or imaginary pets?

It’s funny that you would ask. Although I don’t currently have any pets, I had a black lab whom I loved dearly. He passed away a few years ago and I haven’t been able to bring myself to replace him, mostly because there is no replacing him. When I started writing this book, I knew that a key piece to the story would be Andrew’s horse who is injured on the road south from Scotland. His horse is the reason he’s stranded on Katie’s property, as well as, the reason he fled to Scotland to begin with two years ago. (If you read MUST LOVE DUKES, you may remember the scandal that forced him to leave town.) What I didn’t realize when I started writing this book was that as I wrote the story, Andrew’s horse took on the personality of my dog. The way he would look away and huff when he didn’t like what I was saying, down to the nudge of his head when he wanted my attention. I’d written my dog into this story only living on as a horse. I think he would be pleased. *grins*

Giveaway Interview DESPERATELY SEEKING SUZANNA by ELIZABETH MICHELS @southerntart @sourcebookscasa

Book Description

 March 4, 2014

Her Cinderella Moment

Sue Green just wanted one night to be the pretty one. But a few glasses of champagne and one wild disguise later, she's in some serious trouble. Who knew the devastatingly handsome face of Lord Holden Ellis would get in the way of her foot? And how exactly did all that high-kick dancing start in the first place? At least she blamed it on her new persona—Suzanna—so Society's most eligible bachelor will never find out the truth.

All Holden wants is the truth. Who was that vixen who seduced him so thoroughly, then disappeared? The only one who seems to have any answers about Suzanna is Miss Sue Green. She's promised to help him find his mystery woman, but she's not being all that helpful. And the more time Holden spends with Sue—witty, pretty, and disarmingly honest—the more he realizes he may have found exactly what he's been looking for all along...

PLEASE WELCOME ELIZABETH TO BOOKHOUNDS

1. What is the first book you remember reading by yourself as a child?

EM: I remember reading The Velveteen Rabbit when I was pretty young. What a sad book! It’s an amazing story but, wow…I sobbed. And now, as I’m thinking about the books I liked as a child, I’m noticing a whole woodland creature theme in my reading material…The Mouse and The Motorcycle, Bunnicula, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Adventures of Uncle Wiggly… I’m sure this has some kind of psychological reasoning, but let’s just attribute it to cute fluffiness.

2. What are you reading right now?

EM: I’m in the middle of Much Ado about Jack by Christy English and I’m about to start The Trouble with Honor by Julia London. There are so many great books out right now, I’m reading two at a time! I also had to take a reading break to complete my books on time, so I have some lost reading ground to make up for at the moment. Must. Read. Faster.

3. How does your garden grow?

EM: Not very well, if I can be honest on the subject. I love flowers. I wander through the nursery and sigh over all the beautiful colors unfolding at the first hint of spring. I carefully select the perfect plants and bring them home with me. I plant them and water them with love...and with real water. And then, I get busy for a few weeks, neglect them entirely, and bring them to the edge of death. The following weeks are spent bringing the poor plants back to life, before I become distracted and allow them to wilt once more. It’s a disturbing cycle that would continue on indefinitely with my flower beds only filled with my good intentions and shriveled plants if not for my husband’s heroic use of the sprinkler. He’s the sort that washes his riding mower on the weekends and goes to the home improvement store simply to browse the selection of landscaping power tools. So, my garden grows more in spite of me than due to my constant care. But, I do love looking at it!

4. What is the last thing you Googled?

EM: Which Skylander Giant is the tallest? It’s Tree Rex in case you were wondering. And in other news, I have a 6 year-old little boy who asks lots of questions. *grins* My Google history is filled with random questions about everything from superheroes to river otters with the occasional recipe and book research question thrown into the mix. How did we survive before Google? I’m not sure.

5. What makes you cringe?

EM: Men who wear flip-flops.

Thank you for hosting me on Bookhounds today! This is so much fun and I’m excited to be here celebrating the release of the 2nd book in The Tricks of the Ton series, Desperately Seeking Suzanna. Now, I have one question for you: what makes you cringe?
