Giveaway Review LIES YOU WANTED TO HEAR by JAMES W. THOMSON @Sourcebooks

Book Description

 November 5, 2013

Alone in an empty house, Lucy tries to imagine the lives of her two young children. They have been gone for seven years, and she is tormented by the role she played in that heartbreaking loss. You can hardly see a glimpse of the sexy, edgy woman she used to be. Back then, she was a magnet for men like Matt, who loved her beyond reason, and Griffin, who wouldn't let go but always left her wanting more. Now the lies they told and the choices they made have come to haunt all three of them.

With shattering turns, Lies You Wanted to Hear explores the way good people talk themselves into doing terrible, unthinkable things. What happens when we come to believe our own lies? And what price must we pay for our mistakes?

A searing story that will leave you wondering what choices you would make, Lies You Wanted to Hear is a stunning debut.

My Thoughts
Loved it

Matt and Lucy fall head over heels in love, well, Matt mostly, Lucy is just doing what she thinks she must and return that love. As their story unfolds through alternating view points, you get the feeling that this relationship isn't what it seems. It is built on half truth and wish fulfillment fantasies.  Matt is a cop and instantly falls for Lucy after being set up on a blind date by Jill. Lucy has just come off a relationship with Griffin and is devastated by the breakup.  She isn't ready for Matt and what he offers.  So when Lucy doesn't admit this to Matt, their relationship is built on a house of cards. And you can't look away as they begin to fall.

As you get each side of the story from these characters, it made me wonder what I would have done in that situation.  The characters are very well drawn and the situations they are in can easily be imagined.  This is a fantastic pick for a book club since there are so many dilemmas that can be discussed and picked apart. There are some real emotional rollercoasters here, so be prepared.  As Girffin reappears in Lucy's life, there are some heart rendering twists.  At times, I really wondered what the heck Lucy was thinking and how she could do this to Matt.
