REVIEW: Bossypants by Tina Fey

Description

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV.

She has seen both these dreams come true.

At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon -- from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.

Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.

(Includes Special, Never-Before-Solicited Opinions on Breastfeeding, Princesses, Photoshop, the Electoral Process, and Italian Rum Cake!)

MY THOUGHTS
REALLY LIKED IT

If you are looking for snark, you have come to the right place.  Tina Fey doesn't wait to get into the story of her life before she hits you with some excellent one liners, she starts right with the blurbs.  "Absolutely delicious!" (A Guy Who Eats Books ) or "Totally worth it." (Trees ) and I bet she wrote both of these herself.  The book starts out with the story of how she got her famous scar and yes, it is a horrible story but it also points out how Fey used the attack to her advantage since it put her directly in the spotlight.  She really turned a negative into a positive with this.

The book delves into her life from different perspectives and I just can't help but think I missed something.  There is a lot of insecurity and a bit of sadness mixed in with her successful front.  That is a theme I think carries through almost every memoir I have ever read by a comedian.  I really felt that there is a lot of "I am really successful" but got that feeling of reading an US magazine section where they point out pictures of celebrities that are "JUST LIKE US".  Overall, I did enjoy it since I an a fan of celebrity memoirs.  Don't look down on me, someone has to read them!  I am just confident enough to say it in public.
