About the Author

Maria Semple has written for television shows including Arrested Development, Mad About You, and Ellen. She has escaped from Los Angeles and lives with her family on an island off Seattle. This is her first novel.

LOVED IT


This is such a refreshing debut.  I knew when I first saw the description of this book I knew I needed to read it.  The author does a wonderful job of capturing the whole LA lifestyle and culture.  Semple pokes fun at new age, people with way too much money and power.  You meet the cast of characters and wackiness ensues.  I loved the fact that it is Violet that has the affair and her husband  waits it out with  a zen quality.  

If you enjoyed the Agency by Ally O'Brien or The First Assistant by Clare Naylor, this one will take you to the next level.  This is the perfect book for this summer!
