Giveaway HAVE NO SHAME by MELISSA FOSTER @Melissa_Foster #BookBlast

HAVE NO SHAME BY MELISSA FOSTER

The racially-charged prejudice of the deep South forces eighteen-year-old Alison Tillman to confront societal norms—and her own beliefs—when she discovers the body of a hate crime victim, and the specter of forbidden love turns her safe, comfortable world upside down.
Alison has called Forrest Town, Arkansas home for the past eighteen years. Her mother’s Blue Bonnet meetings, her father toiling night and day on the family farm, and the division of life between the whites and the blacks are all Alison knows. The winter of 1967, just a few months before marrying her high school sweetheart, Alison finds the body of a black man floating in the river, and she begins to view her existence with new perspective. The oppression and hate of the south, the ugliness she once was able to avert her eyes from, now demands her attention.
When a secretive friendship with a young black man takes an unexpected romantic turn, Alison is forced to choose between her predetermined future, and the dangerous path that her heart yearns for.
HAVE NO SHAME is an emotionally compelling coming of age novel featuring a young woman who cannot reconcile the life she wants with the one she’s been brought up to live.Have No Shame will resonate with anyone who has ever fallen in love, and those who have been forced to choose between what they know in their hearts to be true, and what others would like them to believe.

Giveaway Interview! Blood Makes Noise by Gregory Widen

On a summer’s night in 1955, CIA agent Michael Suslov is summoned to a secret vault in the heart of Buenos Aires. His mission: transport the corpse of Eva Peron to a new hiding place in the wake of her husband’s fall from power. But before Michael can comply, everything goes tragically, horribly wrong…
Sixteen years later, Michael Suslov is a ghost of a man, an ex-government agent living off the radar—and the only soul alive who knows where Evita is buried. When an old friend from Argentine Military Intelligence appeals to him for help bringing the body home, Michael agrees, hoping this final mission will quiet the demons from his past. But he’s not the only one on a recovery mission: two rogue CIA agents are tracking him, desperate to unearth Evita before Michael does—and to claim the secret millions they believe she took to her grave.
Based on a little-known yet fascinating true story, Blood Makes Noise is a brilliant examination of the power of the dead over the lives of the living.

Giveaway + Fun Interview ACCIDENTALLY ... EVIL by MIMI JEAN PAMFILOFF @MimiJeanRomance @ForeverRomance

The God of Male Virility Has Never Had a Date . . . Until Now
"Make no mistake, I am not the sort of god who enjoys playing games. When I return, you will tell me everything-who and what you are-then we shall spend the evening making love."
When Maggie O'Hare hears those words she thinks she's lost her mind. One minute she was traipsing around the Mayan jungle looking for her father's excavation site; the next she's accused of being immortal by a guy who swears he's a god. And as for the making love part . . . well, the fact that it sounds like a very good idea is a sure sign she's gone mad. But this guy who calls himself the God of Virility-he's superhot. And every time he touches her, something crazy happens.
Backlum Chaam has waited seventy thousand years to meet the woman Fate has chosen for him, and now that she's here, he can't believe his luck. Maggie is brilliant and gorgeous and everything he could have dreamed of . . . except that she insists she's human. But Chaam knows that's impossible-a god could never love a human. And if he seduces one, their passion could have the power to destroy mankind . . .

PLEASE WELCOME MIMI TO BOOKHOUNDS

1. What is the first book you remember reading by yourself as a child?

The Hobbit when I was about six years old. No, don’t be impressed. It was one of those I CAN READ, dummied down versions only 15 or so pages long. It came with a 45.  For you “young folks” out there, a 45 was a small record. This one played someone reading the story and had music to go along. Ahhhh…yes. And you thought audiobooks were something new?

2. What are you reading right now?

This sentence. Ha.

3. How does your garden grow?

Oh boy. Well, some of my fans have already been introduced to my garden. Funny how it looks frigging awesome all year round. https://twitter.com/MimiJeanRomance/status/197490080271704065/photo/1

4. What is the last thing you Googled?

I totally Googled myself. Yes, I know ego-surfing isn’t cool, but I have a good explanation! Sadly, ebooks are pirated like mad. To keep up with the pirates, I have to do a web search on myself a few times per month. I find dozens of sites and thousands of people stealing my books. So, so sad. Don’t they know I work 17 hours a day to write those and support my family? Jerks!
Oops, did I just vent? Sorry about that. But dang, I feel so much better!
5. What makes you cringe?

People who illegally download books (jerks!) and spiders.

Review WORD UP by MARCIA RIEFER JOHNSTON @WordUpTheBook @MarciaRJohnston

Even the best writers want to know how to write more powerfully.
You may write blog posts, e-books, e-mails, executive summaries, e-zine articles, hospital-hallway signs, presentations, proposals, lab reports, letters to the editor, love letters, lunch-bag notes, movie reviews, news stories, novels, online help, plays, poems, proposals, recipes, reference manuals, scholarly critiques, speeches, term papers, tweets, user-interface text, video scripts, web pages, or white papers.
You may write for a million readers or for one. You may use a pen, a typewriter, a wiki, or an XML authoring tool. You may be a grammar snob, or you may think that "grammar snobs are great big meanies." You may write because something within you says you can't not write--or because your boss says you can't not write. No matter what you write, or how or why, you and every other writer have two things in common: you use words, and you want someone to want to read them.
How do you get people to want to read your words? Know your subject. Know your audience. And write powerfully. This book can help you write powerfully.

About the Author
Marcia Riefer Johnston's words have appeared in the scholarly journal Shakespeare Quarterly, the professional journal Technical Communication, the weekly newspaper Syracuse New Times, and that user guide you used last week and didn't swear at.

Publication Date: April 27, 2013

MY THOUGHTS
LOVED IT

This book is a true gem!  I really wish I had access to something like this while I was in college and questioning my writing skills.  The grammar rules you thought you knew, but somehow forgot, are brought back again with quick wit and easy to understand language.  A reference guide like this will be welcome on anyone's shelf especially since Riefer Johnston uses a lot of humor to get her points across.  I especially enjoyed the Whom versus Who discussion. I have always had a devil of a time getting those straight.

I have to give extra points for the index which lets you get straight to the answer for those specific questions about commas, hyphens and other nit-picky things that grammar fiends adore.  There are a lot of writing manuals available but this one is easy to understand and very accessible.  There are also a lot of tips to make your words more powerful and ways to captivate an audience.  This book is a winner!

Giveaway THE ASSASSINS HOCKEY HOP @tonilovesweber6

Toni Aleo a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic is the author of the fabulous Assassins Hockey Series — Join us for the celebration of the re-release of The Assassins Hockey Series including: Taking Shots; Trying to Score and Empty Net – on sale 4/23/13:

About the books:
Taking Shots:
In Toni Aleo’s exhilarating debut, the first in a series featuring the hockey hunks of the Nashville Assassins, a reformed bad boy helps a charming, willful woman face off against the demons of her past.
No matter how hard she tries, Eleanor Fisher never thinks she’s good enough, from her job to her weight to her love life. After enduring years of abuse at the hands of an ex-boyfriend, Elli has been drifting through life in a daze. Until, that is, she meets Shea Adler on a promotional shoot for the NHL’s Nashville Assassins. Before Elli knows what’s happening, the gorgeous Shea breaks the ice and shatters her world.
A brilliant athlete inside the rink, Shea Adler is tired of the life he’s living outside of it: the girls, the money, the drinking. But everything changes when he meets Elli. After laying eyes on this feisty, witty, beautiful woman, he feels like he’s just taken the hardest hit of his life. No matter how skeptical she is, Shea knows they are meant to be together—if only he can convince Elli to put her insecurities aside throw her insecurities out the window before she misses out on a shot at love.

Trying to Score:
In a captivating novel of hockey and healing hearts, the newest member of the Nashville Assassins pulls a power play to make things right with the one that got away.
Fallon Parker’s dream has always been to turn her family’s wine company into a runaway success and eventually to start a cellar of her own. Since graduating from college, she has worked relentlessly to make that dream a reality, especially after taking a chance on love—and losing. By the time Fallon becomes an official sponsor of the Nashville Assassins, she feels like all her hard work is finally paying off. And then the man who broke her heart skates back into her life.
On the ice, Lucas Brooks is the NHL’s leading scorer—at least when he’s not in the box. Off the ice, he’s a mess, with all his anger and misery bottled up inside. He threw away the most important person in his life and has regretted it ever since. But when Lucas returns to Nashville in a trade, he’s determined to convince Fallon that he’s a changed man. The attraction is still there. The tension is electrifying. But the odds are stacked against them—especially after Lucas finds out that Fallon has been keeping a devastating secret.

Empty Net:
The chiseled men of the Nashville Assassins can make anything happen when they go all-out for the women they want—even turn a one-night stand into a happily ever after.
Audrey Parker is up against the boards. She’s stuck in a job she hates and pining for a total jerk. Meanwhile, her sister Fallon is moving out and getting married to hockey star Lucas Brooks. Where is Audrey’s Prince Charming? Nothing she does has ever seemed to be good enough for any of the men in her life. Audrey’s about to hit rock bottom . . . until she wakes up next to Tate Odder.
The thrill of moving up from the minors to the Nashville Assassins was a welcome distraction. But not even becoming the first rookie goalie to tally three shutouts in the Stanley Cup Finals alleviates the pain. With the loss of his parents and sister weighing as heavily on his soul as ever, Tate Odder can’t keep pretending he’s okay. That’s when he meets smart, sexy Audrey. Her gentle warmth and quirky sense of humor make him feel whole for the first time in too long. But to stay that way forever, Tate must find a way to accept his past and learn to live for love.

Opposites do more than just attract in Toni Aleo’s latest Nashville Assassins novel about a very bad boy and the good girl he can’t resist.
The instant Piper Allen sees Erik Titov, she wants him—wants his rock-hard body, sure, but the strength and mystery that lie behind that superstar hockey jock demeanor, too. So when he sidles up to her at a bar and slinks his arm around her waist, she’s lost. What follows is the wildest night of her life . . . followed by inevitable heartbreak the next morning. And then, a few weeks later, a very big surprise: two blue lines on a pregnancy test.
Only a check to the head could make Erik fall for a nice girl like Piper. But since their crazy-sexy night together, he’s been trying to forget about her alluring body by falling into bed with every woman in Nashville, and it’s not working. So when Piper shows up at his house with a baby-bomb to drop, it doesn’t take much for Erik to suggest the nuclear option: marriage. While it’s supposed to be all for show, the second they say “I do,” the ice between them starts to melt into sizzling steam.

Reminiscent of Before I Fall, Elizabeth Norris's Unraveling blends realistic coming-of-age issues and heart-stopping romance with something just a little bit more. In this case, a gripping science fiction world.
Unraveling's heroine, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner, is used to having a lot of responsibility. She balances working as a lifeguard in San Diego with an intense academic schedule. Janelle's mother is bipolar, and her dad is a workaholic FBI agent, which means Janelle also has to look out for her younger brother.
And that was before she died...and is brought back to life by Ben Michaels, a mysterious, alluring loner from her high school. The more Janelle tries to figure him out, the more she starts to believe he's connected to a case her father is working on. The one where people are dying of radiation poisoning and the body count is rising. The one that involves a strange clock that seems to be counting down to the earth's destruction. If Janelle wants to stop the clock and save the world, she has twenty-four days to uncover Ben's secrets--and keep from falling in love with him.
From debut author Elizabeth Norris, comes this shattering novel of one girl's fight to save herself, her world, and the boy she never saw coming.

Unbreakable, the sequel to Elizabeth Norris’s Unraveling, blends science fiction, mystery, and romance into a thrilling story YA readers won’t be able to put down.
It’s been four months since Janelle Tenner stopped the earth’s destruction with the help of Ben, the boy who resurrected her after she died. Ben is gone now—disappeared through a portal to his home world.
Even though Ben broke her heart, Janelle refuses to believe it when Interverse Agent Taylor Barclay tells her Ben is suspected of running a human-trafficking ring across several universes. She vows to uncover the true culprit and rescue the people who have been sold into slavery on alternate earths—not to mention find Ben and prove his innocence.
In addition to Ben, Barclay, and Janelle, Unbreakable brings back fan favorite characters Elijah and Cecily in this action-packed thriller.

Riveting and romantic, Undone: An Unraveling Novella contains three short stories set in the world of Unraveling, the first book in the gripping sci-fi duology by Elizabeth Norris.
Before Ben Michaels saved Janelle Tenner's life, Janelle saved Ben when he stumbled through an interuniverse portal into a completely new world. That day, he fell in love with the girl of his dreams. And he never forgot her.
Through three stories told from Ben's point of view, learn how Ben and his friends discovered their ability to travel between worlds, how Ben first met Janelle, and how he pined for her for years before he actually got the chance to meet her, save her life, and capture her heart. And find out what happens to Ben between the cliff-hanger conclusion of Elizabeth Norris's Unraveling and the beginning of its heart-stopping sequel, Unbreakable.

Pros and Cons of Owning a Small Dragon
a blog post by Alex Hughes

I’ve recently been asked a lot about pet preferences. You know, do I like dogs or cats better. Whether my imaginary cat is based on a real cat, and whether she messes up my manuscripts like my friends’ cats do. Why I don’t beg my allergy-prone hubbie to live in constant allergy misery. You know, pet preferences.

I’ve been playing around with ideas for pets. Chinchillas are adorable, and have the world’s softest fur, but are quite expensive. Hamsters are dirty, but very cute. Fish are pretty, but you can’t really pet them. And finally, after much thought, I’m considering a small dragon. You know, bread-box size.

The pros to dragon ownership:
*You’ll never have to buy matches, and costs for heating the house go way down.
*Constant picture opportunities for Facebook.
*Winning all the pet comparison contests with friends. Sore losers? The dragon can eat their pet, thus solving the problem.
*No known allergens to bother relatives.
*Lizard-like skin is soft and pettable--well, as long as you don’t go against the grain. On the upside, free sandpaper.
*No need for security system; in a fight, dragon wins against anything.

The cons for dragon ownership:
*Dragons are surprisingly difficult to obtain.
*Small dragons grow bigger; after fifteen years or so, we’re talking golden retriever size, and after that it only gets worse.
*Big commitment; they live hundreds of years. Are my highly theoretical great-grandchildren going to take care of the much-larger dragon appropriately?
*Fewmets. Lots of fewmets.
*Sharp teeth, plus intelligence. Untrainable.
*What do dragons eat?

So, lovely readers, what do you think? Do the pros outweigh the cons, or should I steer clear of dragon pets?
